How much does an Animal Health Certificate cost?

£149 for one pet, and £50 for each additional pet on the same visit. That is the full cost: the vet comes to your home, checks the microchip and rabies vaccination, and issues the certificate there. No consultation fee, no call-out charge, nothing added afterwards.

We visit homes across South West London, within about six miles of Richmond, to issue certificates. Outside that, any Official Veterinarian can issue one — this page is written to be useful wherever you are.

What that covers

  • The home visit itself, at a time you choose — evenings and weekends included.
  • Scanning and verifying the microchip.
  • Checking the rabies vaccination is valid and in date for your travel.
  • Completing and issuing the official Animal Health Certificate.
  • Time to ask about the return journey and what your pet needs coming home.

Two pets are £199, three £249, four £299, five £349 — five being the most one certificate covers.

What it does not cover

The rabies vaccination itself. Your pet must already be vaccinated, and it has to have been done at least 21 days before you travel. If your pet is not vaccinated yet, that has to happen first and separately — and the 21-day wait is not something anyone can waive, so it is the thing most worth checking early.

Tapeworm treatment for the journey home. Dogs returning to the UK need it administered by a vet 1–5 days before re-entry, which by definition happens abroad, at the other end of your trip.

Why this is not the cheapest option

It is not, and it is worth saying so plainly rather than letting you discover it elsewhere. Certificates can be found for less — generally from high-volume providers where you travel to them, fit into a daytime slot, and see whoever is available.

What £149 buys is a vet coming to your house, at a time that does not cost you a day off, to do the one job you booked them for. For a nervous dog or a cat who does not travel well, that difference is the whole point. For everyone else it is an hour of your life back the week before a holiday.

It also sits below what veterinary clinics near us typically charge for the same certificate — most are meaningfully more once the consultation fee is added, and you still have to get there. If price is your only consideration, cheaper exists. If you want it done at home, on an evening, by someone who does these regularly, this is what it costs.

When you pay

At the time of booking, by card. That confirms your appointment and holds the slot. Cancel more than 7 days before and you receive a 50% refund; within 7 days the booking is non-refundable, because the slot can rarely be filled at that notice.
